The 20th of May is Bee Day so to celebrate we put together this fun toilet roll & milk jug bee craft. This is a simple craft that can be easily adapted to use the resources you have on hand at home. The body of the bee has been made using a toilet paper roll tube and the wings a milk jug which makes it a totally awesome recycled craft. Perfect for World Bee Day!

Toilet Roll & Milk Jug Bee

This toilet roll & milk jug bee craft is a super fun and engaging craft. Miss 6 was so excited for this craft that she decided to jump ahead and do it her own way! She decided that she made some cute robber bees, ha! She is currently learning a dance routine to the song Jailhouse Rock so I guess that is where her robber idea came from. Follow the instructions or just take inspiration from this idea like Miss 6 has done and create your own adorable and unique bee.

We made the wings from a milk jug however you can substitute this for paper. The same goes for the colored paper and adhesive black strips as you could use paint, washi tape, or even a Sharpie for the black stripes.

You Will Need

• Toilet paper roll or cardboard tube
• Clean and dry milk jug
• Scissors
• Hot glue
• Sticky tape
• Glue stick to glue on googly eyes so if yours are self-adhesive then the glue stick is not needed
• Pipe cleaners
• Googly eyes
• Foam flowers or other decorations
• Yellow paper
• Black contact paper or washi tape
• Ruler & pencil is helpful to have

Let’s Get Creative

Start by gathering all of the materials listed under the You Will Need list. Take the toilet paper tube, the yellow paper, the ruler, pencil, and scissors and measure out and cut a length of yellow paper that will be wrapped around to cover the entire toilet paper tube. Alternatively, you could paint the toilet paper roll with yellow paint. Wrap the yellow paper around the toilet paper tube and secure it in place using sticky tape.

Next cut strips from the black contact paper if using. Wrap three strips of black around the bee to create stirpes. For this stage, you could use a black pen or paint to make the stripes or keep it really simple and use washi tape.

From the milk jug cut out a long oval/ wing shape. The wings are easier to make if done in one length however it is possible to make two separate wings, just a little fiddlier. Cut a short length from the pipe cleaner and fold in half. Heat up the hot glue gun and glue on the wings and pipe cleaner.

Finally, stick on the googly eyes using the glue stick and decorate with the foam flowers. Another fun idea is to decorate the wings using Sharpie pens before gluing them on the bee.
